Etsy Printable Sizes for Canva

Build a small set of files that covers useful frame sizes, exports cleanly, and tells the buyer exactly what to print. There is no single universal “Etsy size.”

Start with aspect ratios, not dozens of separate files

One high-resolution file can serve several physical sizes when every size has the same ratio. The buyer selects the requested dimensions in the print dialog or at the print lab.

2:3 ratio4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 in · master: 7200 × 10800 px at 300 PPI
3:4 ratio6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 15×20, 18×24 in · master: 5400 × 7200 px at 300 PPI
4:5 ratio4×5, 8×10, 12×15, 16×20 in · master: 4800 × 6000 px at 300 PPI
11:14 ratio11×14 in · 3300 × 4200 px at 300 PPI
ISO A-seriesA5, A4, A3, and A2 share the 1:√2 ratio · A2 master: 4961 × 7016 px at 300 PPI

A 7200 × 10800 master is enough for a 24 × 36 print at 300 PPI and can be reduced for smaller 2:3 prints. It cannot become an 18 × 24 file without cropping because 18 × 24 is 3:4.

Build the files in Canva

  1. Create one master design for each ratio you promise in the listing.
  2. Use the largest physical size in that ratio at the printer's target resolution. If you work in pixels, use the master dimensions above.
  3. Keep text and decorative borders far enough inside the edge to survive normal printer scaling and trimming.
  4. Duplicate and recompose the design for ratios that crop differently. Do not stretch the same artwork.
  5. Export a sample from every ratio and open the downloaded file before listing it.

For custom metric dimensions, use the CM to Pixels Converter. For A4, including an optional 3mm bleed canvas, use the A4 Size in Pixels Calculator.

Choose PDF Print or JPG deliberately

PDF PrintUse for planners, worksheets, invitations, and artwork where page dimensions, multiple pages, or vector text matter.
High-quality JPGUse for photo-lab wall art when the buyer needs a clearly named pixel canvas for one ratio.
PNGUse only when transparency is required; it is often larger than JPG for full-page photographic artwork.

Canva states that PDF Print is intended for printing and can include crop marks and bleed. Turn those options on only when the receiving printer requests them. A home-printable PDF usually should not gain crop marks or extra bleed without a clear trimming workflow.

Package the Etsy download so buyers can use it

Etsy currently allows up to five digital files with a maximum size of 20 MB per file. That limit affects packaging, not print quality. Do not crush image quality only to force every ratio into one file.

  1. Name files by ratio and supported sizes, for example ART-2x3-24x36-7200x10800.jpg.
  2. Put multiple large files into clearly named ZIP archives when needed.
  3. Include a one-page PDF that maps each filename to supported print sizes.
  4. State that colors vary by monitor, printer, paper, and ink.
  5. Tell buyers to print at 100% or “actual size” for fixed-size documents, and to use the lab's crop preview for wall art.
  6. Test the buyer download path before publishing.

Bleed is not automatically required

Bleed is useful when a commercial printer will trim an edge-to-edge design. It is not a universal requirement for downloadable wall art or home printing. Adding unexplained bleed can change the canvas and confuse buyers.

  • If a commercial printer supplies a template, follow its bleed and safe-zone measurements.
  • If the customer prints a standard photo-lab size, supply the exact ratio and let the lab show the crop.
  • If the buyer prints an A4 worksheet at home, design to A4 trim and keep important content inside the printer's non-printable edge.

When bleed is required, calculate the full canvas with the Print Bleed Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Etsy printable be?

There is no single Etsy print size. Group the promised physical sizes by aspect ratio and supply one sufficiently large master file for each ratio.

Should I export from Canva as PDF or JPG?

Use PDF Print for fixed-size documents and multi-page products. Use high-quality JPG for photo-lab wall art when the customer needs a specific pixel canvas.

Should every printable include bleed?

No. Add bleed only for a workflow that trims the printed sheet and only at the amount requested by the printer.
