How this calculator works

A4 has a fixed physical trim size. Its pixel dimensions change with PPI. Select a resolution and orientation, then optionally include a print bleed.

How to use the A4 Pixels Calculator

  1. Choose portrait or landscape orientation.
  2. Select the required output PPI.
  3. Enable bleed only when the printer requests artwork beyond the 210 × 297 mm trim size.

Worked example

A4 portrait is approximately 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 PPI. With 3 mm bleed on every edge, the canvas becomes approximately 2551 × 3579 pixels.

Accuracy note: The ISO A4 trim size is fixed, but the pixel canvas changes whenever the selected PPI changes.

Can I use 72 PPI for printing?

Set up A4 artwork in Canva or Photoshop

  • In Canva, use millimeters where available: 210 × 297mm for trim-only artwork or 216 × 303mm when the printer requires 3mm bleed on all sides.
  • In Photoshop, create the document at the final millimeter size and the required PPI. Do not enlarge a low-resolution image merely by changing its PPI metadata.
  • For commercial printing, export the format and PDF settings requested by the printer. A pixel-perfect canvas does not replace crop marks, color-profile, or PDF-standard requirements.

Do not use the bare A4 result when

  • The printer supplies a custom template, non-A4 trim, binding allowance, or different bleed.
  • The artwork includes photographs that do not have enough real pixels at final size.
  • The output needs crop marks or a specific PDF standard, color profile, or ink limit.
